Psychotherapies for Treating Anxiety

When our clients express concerns about anxiety, our clinicians will often perform an anxiety disorder assesment to understand the client’s concerns more fully. Following assessment, our clinicians often use a combination of several treatments for anxiety, and often include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety. In addition, they may recommend that the client attend group therapy sessions, which can tackle the following issues:

  • Social anxiety
  • Perfectionism
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • General phobias

We encourage individuals with anxiety to utilize the services available here at the University Psychological Clinic. Psychological treatment offers the skills needed to master fear and live free of excessive anxiety.

Psychotherapies for Depression

Our clinicians assess individuals for acute depression, chronic depression, or dysthymia. We then create a treatment plan designed to closely address the type of depression the client is experiencing. Treatment involves working closely with a psychotherapist to understand and master depression, and sometimes, but not always, involves the use of antidepressant medication. We offer individual and group therapy, and often recommend that the client partake in both kinds of treatment.

Individual therapy often involves the use of one or more of the following therapies:

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for depression (CBT-D)
  • Interpersonal Therapy (ITP)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP) for depression
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
