Program Overview
We focus on the following training criteria:
- Using evidence-based therapy approaches with our diverse population
- Becoming skilled with administering a variety of assessment tools and developing meaningful treatment goals
- Working with clients in individual and group therapy sessions
- Understanding the benefits of intensive therapy and collaborating with a team of professionals
- Being effective communicators with clients and their care partners
- Developing strong writing skills
- Learning to be a critical and creative thinker in therapy
- Advocating for clients and providing resources
As an intern, you are an active member of our clinical programs and participate in weekly team meetings as well as center-wide meetings and activities.
Clinical assignments and special training experiences are integrated into the whole experience.
Supervision
At UMAP, each graduate student intern is placed with a licensed and certified SLP who serves as their primary/official clinical supervisor. However, interns also work closely and collaboratively throughout their placements with the rest of our tight-knit clinical team and receive consistent support for providing skilled, evidence-based, personalized, compassionate care for clients and families living with aphasia.
