Common Reasons to Seek Testing at MARI

  • Academic or learning struggles
  • Difficulty focusing, organizing, planning, or prioritizing tasks
  • Behavioral or emotional challenges
  • Social difficulties
  • The need for accommodations in academic or work settings

Who Can Benefit from Testing?

Our services are available for children, teens, and adults. Testing can help you:

  • Receive accurate diagnoses
  • Develop strategies for success in school, work, and life
  • Assess strengths and challenges to support personal growth.

Diagnoses We Evaluate

Our testing services can help determine if you meet diagnostic criteria for a wide range of mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions, including (but not limited to):

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)*
  • Other mental health conditions that may be contributing, such as anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), depression and mood disorders, or trauma-related disorders.

Sometimes, challenges that appear to be related to one concern may actually have their roots in another, and our thorough assessment process is designed to clarify your unique situation so you receive the support that best fits your needs.

  • *MARI is an Approved Autism Evaluation Center (AAEC) as designated by Blue Cross Blue Shield/Blue Care Network of Michigan.
  • *Please note that due to high demand for Adult testing, there is currently a long wait for appointments (over a year).

What to Expect During Testing at MARI

Our goal is to make sure you get the right type of testing that truly fits your needs. Here’s what the process typically looks like:

Step 1: Consultation

You’ll begin with a Testing Consultation, which is a preliminary appointment and not the testing itself.

During this session, you’ll meet one-on-one with a senior clinician who specializes in assessment. You’ll discuss your goals, concerns, and background so we can determine the most appropriate type of testing for your needs.

After the consultation, once we identify your recommended testing approach, our team will contact you to schedule your actual testing dates.

Step 2: The Testing Process

Testing at MARI includes:

  • A clinical interview to get to know you or your child and your concerns
  • A review of relevant background materials (such as past evaluations or school records)
  • Completing targeted assessments based on your testing goals
Adult Testing Overview
  • Clinical interview: 1 appointment (1.5–3 hours)
  • Testing dates: 1–2 sessions (3–7 hours each)
  • Additional forms: Background and symptom questionnaires.

Time needed varies based on your specific needs and goals.

Child Testing Overview
  • Parent interview: 1 appointment (parents only, 1.5–3 hours)
  • Testing dates: 1–3 sessions for child (3–4 hours each)
  • Additional forms: Background and symptom questionnaires (filled out by parents).
  • Teacher feedback: Sometimes requested to learn more about school experiences

Appointment length depends on the type of testing and your child’s needs.

Step 3: Results and Recommendations

Once testing is complete, you’ll have a feedback session. Your clinician will:

  • Provide you with a written report summarizing everything
  • Review and explain results
  • Discuss customized recommendations and next steps

Billing and Insurance Information

We want you to feel prepared and informed from start to finish.

Billing Schedule
  • Your initial bill will be available about two weeks after your last test date, in the ClinicTracker Patient Portal.
  • Final billing will happen within a week after your feedback session.
Late Cancellation Fee – Beginning Aug 1st 2026

Psychological and neuropsychological testing appointments require substantial reserved time, specialized materials, and clinician preparation. For this reason, we require at least 5 business days’ notice to cancel or reschedule testing appointments at MARI.

Cancellations received after this deadline, or failure to attend the appointment, may result in a late-cancellation/no-show fee of $300. This fee is not billable to insurance and is the responsibility of the patient/guarantor unless prohibited by the patient’s insurance plan or applicable law.

Fees may be waived for emergencies, illness, unsafe travel conditions, or other circumstances in line with the late cancellation/no show fee policy at MARI. If a client is ill or otherwise presents in a way that would question the validity of the test results, the clinic may recommend rescheduling.

Insurance Coverage and Cost
  • MARI accepts many Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Blue Care Network (BCN) plans for testing services.
  • Co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance rules vary based on your plan.
  • We try our best to help, but cannot guarantee your exact out-of-pocket cost. For specifics, contact your insurance provider directly.

Self-Pay Option
  • If you don’t have a plan that MARI accepts, you can pay for services yourself.
  • Once testing is done, you’ll receive a bill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
