MARI also offers the chance for undergraduate students to volunteer at our speech and language clinic, the University Center for Language and Literacy.

MARI’s undergraduate interns consistently secure competitive post-bachelor positions and admission to top graduate programs, including NIH programs, MSWs, and clinical psychology Ph.D. tracks.

MARI Clinical Internship Placements

There are three clinical placements within the mental health clinics and one within our language and literacy clinic.

UCCF Child Track

UCCF offers child- and family-focused internships for University of Michigan undergraduates, providing a comprehensive 10-hour weekly experience. Interns dedicate 5 hours to clinical education by attending multidisciplinary seminars, youth and family case presentations, and observing clinical care alongside psychologists and social workers. The remaining 5 hours involve administrative tasks such as providing childcare during parent sessions, updating resources, scoring clinical assessments, and conducting literature reviews, giving students hands-on exposure to both clinical and operational aspects of mental health care.

Psych Clinic Adult Track

The Psychological Clinic (PC) at the Mary A. Rackham Institute (MARI) offers adult-focused internships for University of Michigan undergraduates. Interns commit 10 hours per week, with 5 hours focused on clinical education, including observing clinical work, attending seminars, and participating in adult case presentations alongside multidisciplinary trainees. The other 5 hours involve administrative tasks such as updating resources, scoring clinician assessments, and conducting clinically related literature reviews, providing a well-rounded experience in both clinical and operational aspects of adult mental health care.

Autism (ASD) Track

UCCF offers undergraduate training through the University of Michigan Autism Consultation and Treatment Service (UM-ACTS). Interns work in the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program for children with autism, committing 6 hours per week to lead two 3-hour ABA sessions with flexible scheduling. They also attend weekly supervision meetings and complete brief readings to enhance their understanding of autism and ABA practices, providing valuable clinical experience in autism care.
