A social work intern at one of our mental health clinics at the Mary A. Rackham Institute can expect to have experiences in the following areas:
- Individual and group supervision
- Observations of clinical psychotherapy sessions
- A caseload of 2-4 clients
- Clinical writing
- Initial consultation appointments
- Clinically-related training seminars
- Administrative and clinical team meetings
- Outreach opportunities
Social work interns are observed by a licensed supervisor in all clinical encounters with clients to optimize the training experience and to stay in line with our insurance mandates. We are a hybrid setting with clinical sessions and meetings occurring both in person and virtually. Our social work interns are typically in the 16-month track (if enrolled at the U of M School of Social Work) and are in their internship from January to December.
If you are interested in a social work internship at one of our mental health clinics, please discuss your interest with your field liaison at your school’s social work program.
