Who this group is for:

The DBT Skills Group is for adults interested in strengthening their ability to:

  • Understand and manage strong emotions
  • Cope with stress and difficult situations
  • Respond more effectively in relationships
  • Practice mindfulness
  • Tolerate distress without making a difficult situation worse
  • Communicate needs and establish healthy boundaries
  • Apply practical coping skills in daily life

Skills covered in the group:

The group covers four primary areas associated with dialectical behavior therapy:

  • Mindfulness: Practice paying attention to thoughts, emotions, and experiences in the present moment with greater awareness and less judgment.
  • Emotion regulation: Learn strategies for understanding emotions, reducing vulnerability to intense emotional reactions, and responding to emotions more effectively.
  • Distress tolerance: Develop skills for navigating stressful or painful situations without engaging in actions that may make the situation worse.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness: Practice communicating clearly, maintaining self-respect, setting boundaries, and balancing personal needs with relationship goals.

Why learn DBT skills in a group?

A group setting gives participants opportunities to learn and practice skills alongside adults working on similar goals. Participants can hear different perspectives, discuss ways to apply skills in daily life, and receive encouragement in a structured environment led by a licensed clinician.

How the ongoing group works:

The group operates in four-month cycles, with a different skills theme covered each month. New participants may begin on the first Tuesday of a month after completing the required registration or intake process.
