As part of our commitment to multidisciplinary mental health care, we offer psychiatric consultation services for our clients who are currently working with a MARI mental health clinician.
Please note: Psychiatry services at MARI are only available to current clients who are already participating in psychotherapy through our Psychological Clinic or the University Center for the Child and Family (UCCF). We are not able to offer stand-alone psychiatry or medication management for people who receive therapy outside MARI.
Expert Psychiatric Consultations with Richard Dopp, MD
Our medical director, Richard Dopp, MD, specializes in working collaboratively with clients. These consultations are designed to:
- Discuss the potential role of psychiatric medications as a complement to psychotherapy and self-care strategies – including sleep, exercise, and mindfulness practices.
- Provide in-depth information on how psychiatric medications work and how they can help manage symptoms associated with various mental health disorders.
- Discuss individually tailored dosing considerations to be shared with your primary care provider, supporting safe ways to start taking a medication and building up to effective dosage (starting at low doses with slow increases for optimal results and minimal side effects).
Accessing Psychiatry Services
If you are an existing client actively participating in psychotherapy at either of our clinics, you may be eligible for a psychiatric consultation.
Current MARI clients can discuss with their therapist if meeting with the psychiatrist is recommended. Once decided, an in-house referral can be made for a medication evaluation appointment.
Psychiatry consultations can only be scheduled through your MARI therapist’s referral.
Why Consider a Psychiatric Consultation?
Psychiatric consultations can:
- Help personalize your treatment plan by complimenting ongoing ongoing therapy with the addition of medication management.
- Guide you and your care team on safe and effective use of psychiatric medications.
- Provide you the knowledge you need to make informed decisions about your mental health treatment.
