We have set the September 2020 Aphasia Social Hour topics of discussion — join in the fun and register for all or any of them that spark your interest. Please note that beginning Sept. 10, we are changing the start time of the social hours to 4 p.m. EST. The Sept. 3 social hour will still begin at 1 p.m. as they have in the past. The social hours are free, but registration is required to get your personalized Zoom link.
September 2020 Aphasia Social Hour Schedule
1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 – Reading with Aphasia
This week we’ll have a special guest to help guide the conversation, Anna Teal, who is working on a new project called Aphasia Reads, which is focused on oral reading for adults post-stroke. The rest of the social hour will be about reading — be ready to talk about tips, tricks, or resource that you have found helpful and would like to share with the group.
4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 – Celebrating Lisa’s Retirement
This aphasia social hour will be both joyous and sad: our beloved Lisa is retiring. As the social coordinator for UMAP, Lisa has directly affected many of you out there, shaping your UMAP experience both behind the scenes as well as in front of the scenes – Coffee Cafe anyone? Please join us to (virtually) send Lisa off into her next phase!
4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 – Magical Music Mystery Tour
Gordon and Mimi take us on a Magical Music Mystery tour. Remember the first concert you ever went to? The most recent one? Who is your favorite band? Your guilty listening pleasure? Have a song stuck in your head? Let’s talk about it.
4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 – College Days!
Whether you’re a Buckeye, a Wolverine, a Spartan, an Aggie, a Lion, a War Eagle, or a Tree (really Stanford?) — or feel connected to a particular college or university, let’s talk about it. Do you have pictures of you in college? Memories to share? Did you just drop your kids off at a dorm? Are you a die-hard college sports fan? Bring photos and memories to share!
Click the title theme to register for that session. Once you enter your information on the Zoom registration page, you will receive a confirmation email with the link and directions on how to join.
Who Should Participate?
The social hours are for anyone in the aphasia community — people with aphasia, care partners and family members, professionals, and students. Click the dates to register for each social hour. This is a free, voluntary social hour and is not therapy nor offered in place of therapy.
