Behavioral health and medical professionals are invited to attend a one-day workshop, Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk: Core Competencies for Mental Health Professionals (AMSR), scheduled for November 22, 2019. The training is sponsored by the Campus Suicide Prevention Grant, which is funded by SAMHSA and designed to increase the University of Michigan’s suicide prevention capacity and infrastructure. The grant has been awarded to the Director of the University Center for the Child and Family (UCCF), Dr. Cynthia Ewell Foster, who also has a dual appointment as a clinical associate professor within the U-M Department of Psychiatry.
This training will focus on evidence-based and emerging practices. Topics include risk assessment, safety planning, lethal means counseling, and other core competencies. Providers will increase their ability to care for individuals at risk of suicide and build confidence in their knowledge of best practices.
The training will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided. The cost is $40.
