Autism Specialists at UCCF Present at Behavior Conference

UCCF’s clinical autism specialists presented on ethical and treatment recommendations for sexual behavior in adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at the 2019 Behavior Analysis Association of Michigan (BAAM) Conference. UCCF clinicians provided an overview of the current literature on socially inappropriate sexual behavior in individuals with ASD — and the interventions that are available to address such behavior.

The team also discussed the ethical considerations related to treatment options and provided a single-case design study that demonstrates the potential of behavior analytic methods to effectively modify inappropriate behavior. Literature on sexuality in individuals with ASD is currently limited, so the case study provides promising and important data for managing appropriate sexual behavior.

The BAAM Conference is an annual academic and professional meeting that includes participatory workshops and breakout sessions on a variety of topics related to the principles of behavior.
